What's New for 2011 - so far?

During the year, the Friends gave many thousands of dollars for books and media (including new Farsi language books), and to continue our $6000 subscription to Hot-Off-The-Press books for the latest and best publications.

New this year: Movie Nights! The Friends paid the fee for the Library to participate in the West Valley Area group movie license to show movies here at our branch, using our own TV screen and movie DVDs. So far this year, the movies shown have been: Tangled; Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part I; a Persian movie; and What is the Electric Car?

The Friends co-sponsored adult programs:
-- Judith Sack repeating her excellent presentation on Senior Fraud Scams, this time accompanied by a police officer to answer questions
-- a League of Women Voters representative.

The Friends co-sponsored (provided refreshments, etc.) for teens, including summer reading events, so far this year:
-- Lunar New Year program (Chinese Calligraphy)
-- Chip Thrash Concert hosting artists who use Nintendo Gameboys as musical instruments
-- Teen Open Mic & Coffeehouse Night celebrating National Poetry Month

-- Cinco de Mayo Party with screening of Nacho Libre!
-- Harry Potter Party while screening Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 1
-- Teen Summer Reading Program - "Can't Wait for Next Summer!" Party
