Why join?
Our Encino-Tarzana Branch Library is the 7th highest in circulation, among all the Los Angeles Public Library's 72 branches.  It is a multi-generational home to all readers whether enjoying a book, magazine, newspaper, or Internet.  When our Library is open it is a home away from home providing meaningful learning and of course a healthy variety of reading materials. 

The year 2010 saw all libraries faced with budget cuts, mandated closures, and staff cuts.  Friends groups across Los Angeles took action.  That is why your membership means so much, particularly at this time.  A collective voice can make things happen! We take pride in what we do.  Here are some examples:

Our task is to supplement the library budget - to enhance the collection and services beyond what the budget can afford:
-- Our multi-generational visitors need programming specific and appropriate that is relevant.  We particularly pride ourselves on extra programs for seniors, children and teens.
--Hot-off-the-Press are the newest titles for which there is no budget.  We take pride in making this purchase.
-- Paperbacks need special shelving so that everyone can enjoy them.
-- Books, CDs, DVDs, audiobooks, magazines, and reference works need to be kept current.
-- Always, the Library uses book jacket covers, CD and DVD protective cases, and other supplies, for which there is no budget.
-- Sometimes, the library even needs furniture (chairs, book trucks, tables).

Every year our Library donation, culled from membership dues, contributions, and book sales, makes a significant difference.
