LAPL Teen Web - Links to great sites for:

LAPL databases- (scroll down, they are in alpha order; most require a library card # for login)

  • College Source Online - Web-based national college catalog source.
  • Literature Resource Center - Now includes Twayne's Author Series, Scribner's Writers Series and MLA (Modern Language Association). Covers more than 90,000 novelists, poets, essayists, journalists and other writers, with in-depth coverage of 2,000 of the most-studied authors.
  • Opposing Viewpoints Resource Center - Pro and con arguments for a broad range of current social issues, providing facts, references, articles from many resources, and links to appropriate web sites.

Booklist Online - Excellent resources for free audiobooks for students with disabilities.

UC Open Access - FREE University of California college prep courses.

Calisphere - Features digital versions of primary source material culled from the University of California libraries and archives. Collection can be browsed alphabetically by topic or by culture.

My First Paycheck - Employment help and job listings for teens, which can be sorted by state.

College.gov- Put together by the Dept of Education, to encourage teens to attend college and help them plan how they are going to do it!

ALA 2011 Best Fiction for Young Adults The American Library Association's list comprises a wide range of genres and styles, including contemporary realistic fiction, nonfiction that brings an awareness of the world we live in and its history, and fantastical stories told in both narrative and graphic formats.

Teen Zone: Reading suggestions; college, homework, and health resources; pop culture (media and technology) from the Morton Grove Public Library - - annotated and very helpful.

From the County of Los Angeles Public Library: Teens Read includes book suggestions and useful links. Book Lover's Central has a section for teens with books organized by subject.

LAUSD Los Angeles Unified School District - calendars, information for students and others.

Oprah's Reading List for teens, suggestions provided by The Association for Library Service to Children, a division of the American Library Association.

For material to supplement your texts, try publisher's websites such as: Pearson Prentice Hall. Click on a subject, then choose California and the subject to see if your text is there. You might try  a self-quiz on Demand for your Economics class.
