As a member of the Friends of the Library you become part of a dedicated group of people concerned with maintaining and enhancing a vital component of our community.
Your membership makes a difference! Friends' funds are derived from membership, book sales, and donations to keep our Library state-of-the-art.
Budget cuts continue to reduce the ability of Los Angeles Public Library's 72 branches to keep current. Yet, with the help of our Friends, Encino-Tarzana Branch still ranks 2nd to 5th in circulation.
Examples of how we allot our money to Encino-Tarzana Branch Library:
-- Items that the Library budget does not cover:
* Hot-Off-The-Press titles (newest popular books)
* Most Library supplies for processing new materials, maintenance, etc.
* Special Library items - as the need arises
-- Items where the Friends supplement the Library budget:
* New books, paperbacks, magazine subscriptions
* Programming for children, teens, and adults
* New CDs, DVDs, AudioBooks
* Replacing Library furniture and equipment
A strong roster of concerned citizens enables our Friends' Board to speak with credibility. A recent example was in 2011, all 72 branches of our Los Angeles Public Library had a drastic reduction in hours. Our Friends' Board addressed this issue. It was with the Friends support that we had the collective voice to go downtown and speak to this agenda: We had an active part in supporting Proposition L. Libraries reopened an additional day each week and new services have been added.
Membership Levels begin at $5.00.
